Things I've discovered, loved, learned from and about this month, that I think you should check out!
The Podcast: Life Jolt
I discovered this podcast through another podcast Ear Hustle. This podcasts examines the lives of women navigating Canada's correctional system. It is hosted by Rosemary Green, who is a former inmate herself. She explores numerous issues including parenting behind bars, segregation, the over-representation of Indigenous women, addiction, trauma, and the obstacles of reintegration. I am incredibly excited to continue listening and learning.
Life Jolt- prison slang for life sentence.
Field Trip Rolling Papers: Burn Book Papers & Burn Bad Policy
Field Trip makes beautifully printed rolling papers that are organic and vegan. One of their products is the Burn Book which contains 12 papers and 12 tips, it aims to be an educational product and wealth distribution tool. Each paper features a law keeping people in prison for the possession of marijuana. The profits are donated to the Last Prisoner Project and other organizations fighting to restore civil liberties.
The motto of this product is Puff. Pass. Protest. which I couldn't love more.

Note: The rolling papers are made with food grade vegetable based inks, rice paper, and organic fair trade arabic gum which means they are fully compostable. Noting that they are organic, vegan, and use fair trade ingredients they are a pretty sustainable brand but I would have liked to see a mention of sustainability on their website as well as more information on their sourcing.
The Lunary
I discovered The Lunary through doing research on Black-Owned Brands with Compostable Products or Packaging for my job, through which I discovered Live Like You Green It which is sold through The Lunary! The Lunary is a Woman-of-Color owned indie brand, conscious marketplace, and digital safe space that celebrates marginalized people. The marketplace features curated sustainable fashion, beauty, wellness, and lifestyle products that are ethically made by Women, LGBTQ+, and BIPOC-owned brands/makers. "Through transparency, education, clear criteria/standards, and easy-to-understand value tags, we make it easy to shop your values without compromise." I highly value and prioritize voting with your wallet and it is so nice to discover a place that makes it so easy to do so. I also love that it makes it easier for people who don't want to spend as much time evaluating the brands they buy from.

Sway
I discovered Sway through the job database Climatebase. Sway is on a mission to replenish the planet- starting with regenerative packaging made from seaweed. They harness the power of seaweed to create compostable replacements for single-use plastics. Their website is both super informative and very aesthetically pleasing. I can't wait to see all the waves they make!

@exposingantisemitism on TikTok & Jewitches Anti-Semitism Education
These are both great resources for Anti-Semitism education. From the Jewitches website, "As antisemitism is rising globally. And as a result, it is swelling online. It is a duty not just for the Jewish community, but for the people who claim to be our allies, to know this information." They breakdown tropes, terms, dog whistles, and conspiracy theories. Before finding these resources, I had never even heard of the term dog whistle and I have already found this resource incredibly informative. So many forms of hate are rising globally and it is imperative we educate ourselves.
